Question:

What is the House of Commons of the United Kingdom?

I've seen it on television, but I don't quite understand what they deal with or how it works. It's weird to me because they can agree or disagree with a particular subject and hold a speech right in the meeting. It's more entertaining that way. I've never seen any U.S. government organization conduct a meeting like this.

What does the House of Commons deal with? How does it work? How much power do they hold out of all the branches in the U.K. government or is it balanced? Who elects the body of the House of Commons? Is there any organization in the U.S. government similar to the House of Commons? If not, what organization holds the same power as the House of Commons?

Thank you for you help :-)

  1. The House of Commons is the legislative house of Parliament with its Members elected by directly by the people.  Only this house can make law.  The House of Lords - the second of the "Houses of Parliament", must endorse all acts passed by the Commons.  They do not have the power to strike them out but can send them back for reconsideration twice.  If the Commons submit the act a third time, the Lords must submit it to the Monarch who signs it into law.

I do not have a clear idea of the US system and they are so different - giving huge dictatorial power to the President - comparison is really beyond me.
