What is the Japanesse Consulate?? ASAP!?

I am trying to write an article about a man who worked there and i don't really get what it is... any help?

  1. A consulate is a diplomatic office representing a country, in your case Japan.  It's not the same as an embassy.  An embassy is located in the capital city of the nation while the consulates are normally smaller offices located outside the capital.

    For instance, Japan's embassy is in Washington, DC.  There are Japanese consulates located throughout the rest of the United States (see the map at the link).
