Question:

What is the Job Corps?

A lot of people tell me that it's only for disturbed children. I currently would like to join, I'm still in school and all, but they have a few classes I think I'd like. I'm almost sure I meet the requirements and if what I'm reading on the pamphlets is true, then, I feel these people maybe able to get me on my feet. Back to my first question though, is it for disturbed people, or are people making a bunch of hype?

If you are still in school, then talk to your high school counselor, and tell him or her what it is you are interested in studying. Technical colleges are a better option than Job Corps, in my opinion, and your counselor should be able to explore such options. If your counselor won't help you, start looking for colleges in your area and make an appointment yourself with the admission offices, to see if they can connect you with scholarships and other assistance.

Job Corps does provide training, and many people have been helped by it. But, indeed, there are some people there who are compelled by the courts, who have dropped out of school, etc. It's an option for you -- but not necessarily the only one.

  2. Job corps are kids 16-20 maybe older that very troubled

  3. Man o man.  Do people shoot off their mouths without the correct information. After seeing the lame and uninformed answers I feel compelled. Job Corps is a vocational training program for low income young people.  You cannot be court ordered to go there and it is all but impossible to get in if you have serious behavior problems.  They have a zero tolerance policy for drugs and violence.  The program is paid for by your tax dollars and if you complete you will receive a check to help you get started along with Job Placement assistance.  You also receive a small stipend while in the program so you have spending money.  The program is for young people age 16 to 25.  But wait to you are out of school.  Job Corps is not an easy program.
