  1. Umo comaa durli

it means stop them bloody english crossing the border.

  2. It is apparently "Nemo me impune lacessit", meaning "None provoke me unpunished". It is now the motto of the Order of the Thistle.

It is also used on the Scottish version of the UK royal arms.

  3. It means "Don`t upset me or I`ll clock you one!"

  4. To Moyra D: The Scots took over the English throne!

King James VI of Scotland was already the Scottish King when he succeeded the English throne when Queen Elizabeth I died. The English call him King James I because they didnt have a James before him.

So he was the existing King of Scotland and took over the throne of England. The two thrones are now one.

The motto above the coat of arms of Scotland is:

"In Defens" - old Scots for "In Defence" as in 'In My Defence God Me Defend".

Later versions of the arms also featur the motto "Nemo me impune lacessit" which means "No-one wounds (touches) me with impunity".

  5. I'm not Scottish, so don't thumbs down me, but I thought the English took over the Scottish throne when James was appointed to rule ? That means there is no recognized Scottish throne so therefore there is only an historical motto

  6. Inebriata semper.

  7. The crest atop the Crown of Scotland is a red lion, seated and forward facing, itself wearing the Crown of Scotland and holding the two remaining elements of the Honours of Scotland, namely the Sword of State and the Sceptre of Scotland. This was the crest used in the Royal Arms of the Kingdom of Scotland. A motto in Scots also appears above the crest which is taken from the battle cry 'In My Defens, God Me Defend', abbreviated to 'In Defens'. The coat features both the motto Nemo me impune lacessit (No-one wounds (touches) me with impunity) and the insignia of the Order of the Thistle around the shield.
