  1. I think a telling statistic is that Manhattan is 23 square miles, and is home to 1.6 million people (once as high as 2.3 million).

London's congestion zone where traffic is controlled is about 8 square miles, and only home to 370 thousand people.

London doesn't have anywhere near the density of the Upper East Side. The POSH neighborhoods are not high rise building. Chelsea, Sloane Square and Kensington are very upscale, but relatively low rise.

  2. Well, London and New York are rather different in some ways (above all, perhaps, in how streets and blocks are laid out)....but if you mean an upmarket, sophisticated, residential and shopping district, I'd say probably the nearest you would find would be either the Knightbridge/Brompton/South Kensington area, or, not far from there Sloane Square/Chelsea/Kings Road...

  3. Belgravia, Kensington-Chelsea, Holland Park & St John's Wood are all equivalent. They're very exclusive, beautiful and somewhat tame, which is pretty much the way I see the Upper East Side. You won't find a lot of raging nightclubs in either places. Instead, there are dignified buildings, tree-lined streets, posh but subdued restaurants, neighborhood cafes, beautiful parks, Pilates studios, high-end shopping, & close access to cultural attractions. This is where a lot of the ladies who belong to the Petroleum Wives Club live, and they totally remind me of Lily van der Woodsen (Serena's mom on Gossip Girls). A lot of them are from the Upper East Side, actually.

  4. Oxford Street is great! Basically, central London...
