What is the Marines version of a Medic?

As far as I know, the Marines have the Navy Corpsmen if I'm correct and they're like the Marines medic. What I don't get though is if they're actually APART of the Marines, and if not, do the Marines have their own Medics? Just wondering because I want to join the Marines and look into the Medical field.

  1. Navy corpsman !  The US Navy and the US Marine Corps are both part of the Dept of the Navy, therefore they answer to the same high command !

If you wish to become a medic than the navy is the only way for you to be able to attend Marines in combat.  Another direction is to join the Marines and request motor transport.  From there you can request ambulance duty.  It's not quite the same but there is plenty of action in this job.

I served as a battalion ambulance driver with the 3rd Marine Division in Southeast Asia.  It was a very memorable experience !

  2. No, the Marines do not have their own medics. Navy Hospital Corpsman are assigned to duty with the Marines to serve as Medics.

  3. Marines do not have medics.

    They use navy corpsmen

  4. I am a former Navy Hospital Corpsman and retired Navy Nurse.  The U.S. Marines do not have any medical personnel (doctors, nurses, corpsman) of their own.  We all come from the Navy. We go through a training course to learn about the USMC. We play Marine.  I think it lasts 6 weeks.

    The chaplains also are Navy.

  5. They have Corpsman

  6. navy corpsman get their orders directly from the Marine Corps so they are pretty much marines themselves. corpsman are expected to do the same things the marines do. marines have no medics and their medics are pretty much navy corpsmen. if u want to serve as a medic for the marines join the navy corpsmen and do FMF (fleet marine force) it is a joint unit of navy corpsmen and marines. corpsmen can do most all of the things marines do

  7. Medical services for the USMC are provided by the Navy.

  8. i dont know where some of these people are getting their information, but my husband was a Marine and trained as a field medic by the navy corpsman. he had to take classes and was certified or whatever he needed to be to administer first aid in the field in the event a corpsman was not near by.

what they are saying is there is no official MOS for that position. but yes there are Marine medics.

  9. A PART not APART!

The Marines don't have medics! They have Navy Hospital Corpsmen assigned to the FMF!
