What is the difference between the Melbourne Tram gauge and the Melbourne Train Gauge?

The real question following this, is can a tram go on the Melbourne Metro train network.

  1. Our tram gauge is 1435mm or 4ft 8 1/2 inches,

    Our railway gauge is 1600mm or 5 ft 3 inches, so no they cant run on each others lines.
