  1. The golden point, a sudden death overtime system, is used to resolve drawn matches in rugby league matches. The term is borrowed from soccer's now defunct golden goal.

The golden point is used to determine a winner (where applicable, see below) when scores are level at the end of regular time. Prior to its introduction in Australasia's National Rugby League competition, normal season games were left as draws; in finals matches, 20 minutes extra time ensued (10 minutes each way), with a replay in the event of a draw.

If the scores are level at the end of 80 minutes, 5 minutes are played, the teams swap ends with no break, and a further 5 minutes are played. Any score (try, penalty goal, or field goal) in this 10 minute period secures a win for the scoring team, and the game ends at that point. If the scoring event is a try, no conversion is attempted. If no further scoring occurs, the game is drawn and each team receives one competition point.

a recent match was the sharks v roosters yesterday

anthony minichiello got a field goal in golden point time and won the match for the roosters

  2. Yeah what he said:

5 minutes each way are played at the end of the match, unless someone scores, then the game is over. If no one scores in that 10 minutes then the game stays a draw. The last time there was a draw I think was last year or before when Bulldogs and Souths were 20-20 and after extra 10 minutes it stayed 20-20 so they both got one competition point
