Question:

What is the Olympic televised coverage like in your country?

In the USA, the coverage primarily includes events that Americans are participating in. Even then, those events are sometimes cut off after say, America, Canada, China and a few others have participated.

I am interested in coverage across the world? Is everyone else's country airing events the same way or do you get to see it all?

  1. Utter utter utter c**p.

Australias channel 7 has NO idea. At all. Completely useless.

Edit in: I shall clarify some. The repeating is atrocious as Eccentric points out people over here dislike. For example, right now they are re-showing a mens hockey match that we watched last night. Ossum.

But its not just the races we win that they repeat ad-nauseum - but they make these little montages of events and play them to death too. Like the italian fencer - or and lets not forget how often they could pick on the Columbian Weightlifter with an injured hand.

The commentary - horrid. The women doing athletics is completely useless and at times, both offensive to the competitor and our intelligence.

Oh, and apparently australians only like Swimming, Gymnastics and Beach Volleyball. Anything else you have to wait until after midnight with your eyes hanging out of your head and hope they manage to squeeze it in before they finish for the night - at 2:30 while telling us they cant squeeze everything in... Of course you cant, apparently the amazing race and Today in Beijing is far more important. God forbid I dont get my daily fill of american commentators talking with american athletes and telling me about american weather. Thanks so much

Finally - the ads. It may start live, but by the time they have managed to stick all their advertisers for big bucks, we are 3 hours behind.

When you consider that in Malaysia they have 11 interactive channels just for the olympics, you have to wonder how anyone finds this tripe acceptable.

  2. I work in China, and cannot understand the TV remote... It's all ching chong-like. So there is no coverage at all... ever

  3. here in australia its lousy.. so many of us were prepared to thoroughly enjoy, as the time zone is so similar..... and its probably the last time in a long while we will be able to enjoy an olympics in our time zone.... but our local coverage by channel 7 has shown repeat after repeat, commercial after commercial, has shown events delayed, unneccesarily nd lacking in information.. to the extent I am close to pulling my hair out... I can understand that if two events are occuring similtaneously, both cannot be shown at once... but the extent of delays for the sake of advertising, both commercials and station promos.. is mind bogglingly annoying.. shame on you channel 7...

sbs (our ethnic broadcasting service) who also cover the events here have been better (and are inherently less parochial), but only can show a limited variety of events... due to local regs, sponsorship deals etc etc...

it would be great to see athletes other than aussies compete in events to which 7 controls the rights, rather than the continual rehashing of material already shown over and over again

  4. Japan sucks! All they cover are events that the Japanese are in and then they really only show the Japanese competitors. They have even shown only parts of the medal ceremonies cutting away once the Japanese athletes get their medal and not showing the flags raise or the national anthem of the winner.

I HATE it. This is my 3rd summer games to watch here and I miss coverage in the US.

  5. It's so crappy. The announcers talk way too much with their d**n opinions that no one cares about and Bob Costas is the biggest tool alive. And I want to see other games that don't have Americans in them.

  6. In australia channel 7's coverge is 24/7 expect some times they put on afl or little kids shows in the morning

its pretty good but they havea lot of crits saying that they repeat things to much

  7. Coverage in Canada is pretty good. They cover most countries and focus on the leaders, rather than just the Canadians. We get NBC up here too and I am thoroughly fed up with them. They don't mention anybody except the Americans and are a day behind CBC's coverage. Even when an American wins, they don't mention the 2nd or 3rd place athletes and even worse, when an American gets 2nd, they barely mention the country that won gold! It's pretty sad actually.

  8. We have two channels doing the Olympics and I flip between the two.

Channel 7 does Athletes and Swimming and what ever else Australia are playing in.

SBS focus more on team sports and cycling.

I enjoy SBS more and enjoyed seen the Women soccer match the best so far.

  9. The coverage in Australia is quite average!

  10. Canada's coverage of the Olympics is pretty awesome... there's a lot of variety, and they show other countries competing also. I tried watching NBC's coverage of it the other day, and I totally agree with you, their coverage focuses mainly on the Americans that are participating in the event... even during men's track... you'd think there were only three racers! =)

  11. CBC in Canada is pretty good we get a wide range events, and the website has around 5 or 6 live strems of other events going on
