  1. It depends ENTIRELY on what country you are talking about.

If a princess married a German duke, her daughter would be a duchess. For instance, the head of the Royal House of Württemberg is HRH The Duke of Württemberg, but he has daughters who are HRH Duchess <name> of Württemberg. Rachelle is wrong to say that a princess' daughter would be in line of succession, some monarchies do not allow females to be in the line of succession whatsoever, such as Liechtenstein.

I hate when people always assume that the British system is in play. There are MANY more monarchies out there and Britain is usually an exception to any pattern rather than the norm.

  2. her title would be princess!

  3. Her title would be Lady. In special cases like those of Princess Anne where her mother was the heiress presumptive, her grandfather King George V declared that all of then-Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh's children will carry out the title Prince or Princess.

Notably, the title of Duke is usually given only to blood relatives of the King or Queen (e.g. Prince Edward, Duke of Kent; Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester. The Duke of Edinburgh being an exception since he is the husband of the then-future monarch. The title of Earl is one that is given to men who marry princesses such as the former Antony Armstrong-Jones who became Earl of Snowdon after marrying Princess Margaret and the Earl of Harewood, the husband of the former Princess Royal.

In Spain, the ducal title was granted to husbands of both princesses Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina. The children of both women carry on the title His/Her Excellency Don/Dona.

  4. A royal princess retains her title, known in very formal address as Her Royal Highness,Princess---,Duchess of --.Her daughter would not be a royal, but  The Lady Given Name Surname, inheriting her father's status.

Princess Anne's daughter is Miss Zara Phillips;her father has no title.

  5. Royal titles can not be passed through the female line unless a letters patent has been passed by the ruling Monarch as it was for the then Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh so that any children born before she inherited the throne would be entitled to the title Prince and Princess.

If a princess married a Duke it would depend on where he was Duke of and whether he was a Royal Duke. If the daughter is the only child some Dukedoms can be passed through the female line.

However, normally Duke's daughters have the courtesy title of "Lady". Their eldest son traditionally takes the highest of their father's subsidary titles, all sons have the courtesy title of Lord.

  6. Any young daughter in a royal family is always called Princess.  That title would change when she married; she might remain a Princess, or any other royal tile depending on whom she married.

The other part of your question; if the royal daughter married a Duke, she could retain her Princess title and they would then be Duke and Princess of "whatever". But she could chose to become a Duchess.

  7. Usually royal styles and titles cannot be passed through the female-line, therefore, the title bestowed upon the daughter of a princess really depends on the father. If the princess marries another royal prince with a duchy title for example His Royal Highness/His Highness/His Serene Highness Prince Derek, Duke of Lambert, their daughter will be legally "Her Royal Highness/Her Highness/Her Serene Highness Princess Rachelle of Lambert." If the princess marries only to a Duke with no royal styles and titles, their daughter will be a "Lady." In some countries, a female could inherit peerage titles, therefore, upon the death of the Duke, the daughter may became a "Duchess."

Note: Although, the daughter of a princess cannot inherit any royal styles and titles through her mother, she is still in the line of succession. If her mother was crowned "Queen", the daughter will immediately become the “heiress apparent or presumptive”, and depending which countries she is from, she could be elevated to the position of a “Princess” with new royal styles and titles.
