  1. our liz's surname is Windsor, gawd bless her!!

  2. Windosr is the current dynesty and has been since 1915. As for German Descendants most of the English have Germanic Blood in them (Saxons, Angles and Jutes all come from the Germanic Plains, Jutland Peninsular and Northern Rhine areas) mix that with the Nordic and Scandinavian blood add a little Italian, slavic and french, possibly since the 16th Century some Moorish, Asian, American as well and we are getting there.

  3. The Queen's surname is Windsor and yes  there is a german blood line but Prince Philip is from Greece.

  4. Windsor - they changed it from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha during the war because of their German ancestry. Philip's brothers-in-law were actually high ranking officers in the SS.

Royalists will refute this, blind, as they are, to the truth.

  5. Contrary to nearly all the answers up to now, THE QUEEN DOES NOT HAVE A SURNAME. She is a member of the House of Windsor, but this is NOT the same thing as a family name. An Order-in-Council in 1960 decreed that all of her descendants who do not have a royal title or other surname can use the surname "Mountbatten-Windsor".

It's recorded that Queen Victoria once asked what her surname was, as she didn't know, and after much consultation it was decided that she didn't have one, but if she did, it would have been "Wettin". She was not terribly happy with the name.

  6. Mount Batton

  7. Windsor ---Prince Phillip is of German Descent.

  8. No, you are wrong. Her name is Sachs-coburg, maybe spelt different. It is reputed that a loyal butler came up with Windsor, whilst serving afternoon tea in the great castle. They had up to that point been using, Wales. They had to distance themselves from European royalty (all first cousins) because of, as you said, the war with Germany.

  9. The official surname that the descendants of Elizabeth II is "Mountbatten-Windsor." The Queen's real surname was "Wettin", a branch of the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha line of the House of Wettin. However, high anti-German feeling among the people during World War I prompted the Royal Family to abandon all titles held under the German crown and to change German-sounding titles and house names for English-sounding versions. Therefore, The Queen's surname became "Windsor", and The House of Windsor is the current Royal House of the United Kingdom and each of the other Commonwealth realms.

Mountbatten is the surname of Prince Philip, which is also an English version of the German name Battenberg. Therefore, in honour of him, his children may choose to use the surname "Mountbatten-Windsor", and Prince Charles may want to establish the first "House of Mountbatten-Windsor" as the official ruling house when he is King. However, the younger generation like Prince William and Princess Beatrice prefer to use their territorial title in place of their surname. For example, Prince William was registered as William Wales in college, and Princess Beatrice was registered as Beatrice York in college.

The following people have made use of, in current practice, or have made use of, the surname Mountbatten-Windsor. They are listed in the order of succession to the Crown.

    - Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall

    - Prince William of Wales

    - Prince Henry of Wales

    - Prince Andrew, Duke of York

    - Princess Beatrice of York

    - Princess Eugenie of York

    - Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex

    - Lady Louise Windsor (simply styled with the name Windsor)

    - James Windsor, Viscount Severn (styled Viscount Severn)

    - Princess Anne, Princess Royal (until her marriage with Mark Phillips in 1973 (divorced 1992) when she assumed his surname; her surname has subsequently changed again on the occasion of her marriage with Timothy Laurence in 1992)

  11. Khan

  12. Windsor - and yes, she does have German ansestors.

  13. Windsor and they are of mixed race mainly British,German and Greek at the moment,,

    The Queen,British/German

    Prince Philip Greek

    Prince Charles British/German/Greek

Prince William British with a little German and Greek,,

They changed their name during WW1 to a more English sounding name, several were proposed to the then king

  14. The Queen as titled Royalty doesn't have a surname but she is a member of the House of Windsor (and possibly the last as Prince Charles has said he'd change it to House of Mountbatten-Windsor).

Her great-great grandfather (Prince Albert)was the last TRUE German to marry into the Royal Family and George I (who the Queen is directly descended from) was German but she is less German than people think.

  15. It's something like 'Windsurfer'.

  16. You mean to tell me that the Royal Family haven't got any Irish in them? I wonder, do they want some?

  17. its Windsor, but it was changed during the 1st world war because they thought it was wrong to have a British monarch with a German surname when we were at war with Germany

  18. It's still Windsor

    best of luck to you!

  19. Windsor

  20. it was changed to windsor during ww1 from the german family name saxe-coburg-gotha.  technically though it should be mountbatten as that is phillips sirname but the queen didn't go for the change.  princess anne usues her husbands sirname of course, prince's andrew and edward are Windsor but charles and his children use the traditional Wales as their sirname.

  21. They used to have a German name, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, but they changed it when Germany became an enemy, to Windsor.

  22. Windsor,Yes.

  23. Excuse me but I think that is Mixed Nationality. NOT mixed RACE. Personally I belong to the HUMAN Race.

Ok as to the question. lol. All of the Royalty in Europe were related by marriage because they could only marry royalty. The marriages were arranged by the parents. The links below, one to Queen Victoria and one that covers all of the different royal families in Europe.

Have fun reading. And have a great day.

  24. Her surname is Windsor although Philip had wanted her to take his name on marriage (Mountbatten).

George V changed their name in 1917, due to the anti-German feelings during the first world war. Prior to that the family were Saxe-Coburg-Gotha....quite a mouthful :-)

  25. Sorry TT, her name is definitely Windsor, the Royals changed their name officially from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in 1917. The needed to distance themselves from their German relatives.

As for her taking Phillips name, there is nothing in British law to say a wife has to take her husbands name so she was well within her rights not to take the name Mountbatten. However some of her decendants do use the name Mountbatten-Windsor.

  26. it's Windsore

  27. mountbatten windsor

  28. Windsor..and yes..from German ancestory.
