  1. For the Georgians, it's about independence and a chance at Democracy.  For the Russians and Putin, it is a matter of Nationalism.  In Vladamir Putin, you will find a strong nationalistst who is determined to bring back the former Soviet Union with all of its satelite countries and power intact.  Georgia being one of those countries.

  2. russia got all retarded and stuff and thought that georgia was having bombs and stuff and were planning a terrorist attack or something so russia bombed them and stuff and kaboom blam blam explosion explosion boom boom

  3. Something about the reporting of this conflict leaves me feeling unsure of the whole thing. It isn't a simple matter of Russia invading sovereign Georgia. The territories that Russia invaded have been trying to secede from Georgia for awhile. They contain a lot of Russians and they use Russian currency, etc. Rather than blindly supporting Georgia in this conflict, I think the West should say that these disputed territories should have a referendum on who they want to join. (Though I am in Canada, and clearly referendums are a dicey issue here hahaha.) I feel I am pretty neutral to this conflict (I'm not a Russian sympathizer or anything), but I think the reporting has been overly favourable to Georgia (possibly because the president of Georgia speaks good English and plays well to the media) so that it seems like an innocent country is being invaded by evil Russia. The issue is much more complicated than that, and unfortunately the media isn't doing a good job of representing that complexity.

  4. It is pollitical and history. The historic aspect of Russia wanting Georgia back beacsue through history until the fall of the Soviet Union Georgia was always part of Russia. Every person whom ever ruled Russia including and concluding with Joseph Stalin every tsar were all from Gerorgia including Joseph Stalin. Georgia shares a great deal of past histort with Mother Russia. The political aspect is the fact the Putin is an ex KGB (Soviet Secret Service) who believes that Russia is great and that Russia should be the same what is used to be. He is against democracy, and regaining Georgia would serve a good millitary tactic. Also keep in mind that even though the Cold War ended in 1990 with the Fall of the Soviet Union the Cold War never ended. USA is still in constant nuclear millitary race with Russia, the only thing changed is that more player like China entered into the game and the toys became more expensive and dangerous to us innocent citizens.
