  2. From my recollection, the Russians tend to name their aricraft fairly simply with the manufacturer and the model number.  However, the manufacturer's name is usually abbreviated so instead of Mikoyan-Gurevich 29, you have MiG 29.

    However, NATO uses a series of codenames for the Russian aircraft.  Names beginning with a B are usually bombers (eg Bear, Bison) and fighters start with an F (Fulcrum, Flanker, Foxbat, Fishbed).
