  1. stanford and MIT, my faves!

  2. As far as I remember, there are three sections for each portion of the SAT, and a random section that is used as an experiment for the College Board. The variable section won't be counted toward your final score, but you won't be told which section is the variable one.

At Harvard, Princeton, and other Ivy League schools, there are no set requirements for the SAT; admissions is holistic, meaning that it takes into account factors beyond the SAT, such as GPA, extracurricular activities, essays, and personal qualities. In theory, those schools do not turn down or accept applicants based solely on their SAT scores.

That said, you can look at published SAT score ranges and averages (collegeboard.com, various college books) for schools you're interested in. Out of 1600, Harvard and Princeton students typically score in the upper 1400s and lower 1500s on the SAT, and probably in the 2200s with the writing section included.

Some very good, popular schools that aren't considered elite might include Penn State, University of Florida, University of Maryland, University of Ohio, Texas A&M, and Purdue University.
