yeah there is a base jetta, there is a jetta GL and the jetta GLI thoes are the newer 2nd-3rd (mk2-mk3) generations the older mk1(first generation) come in the base jetta I, then jetta II, and jetta III

I have the smallest one and that is jetta gl and really all the types is most talking about the power and the add on's that the car has. But the 1999 jetta I have is a gl and that is the smallest in eng and stuff and i look and feel great!
