  1. For ground steering, most large aircraft have a tiller or a hand wheel for steering the nose landing gear wheel.  The hand wheel is usually called the "steering wheel."

In the air, airplanes are steered by a coordinated application of force to the yoke or stick and the rudder pedals simultaneously.  Most modern airplanes require only minimal use of rudder pedals to make coordinated turns.

  2. like the other answers, it's called a yoke

  3. It's called the control yoke and on some of the newer aircraft it is called a side stick since the control yoke is not used. I've also heard it called the control column. And the uninitiated sometimes call it the steering wheel.

  4. A yoke.

  5. For ground steering, some older planes had a side control arm, often called the tiller that turned the nosewheel. I do not know about newer jets etc as I only fly small pipers now.

  6. everyone is right, but if you mean the one to steer the plane on the ground its a tiller.

  7. it's called 'the stick' or 'the yoke'

  8. It's called a yoke :)

edit: wow, that went from zero answers to 3 before I could write the sentence
