I'm not looking for the medium income per household. I am looking for the minimum living wage for a single person in the US.

  1. It'll vary a lot by area.  But living wage levels are equal to what a full-year, full-time worker would need to earn to support a family of four at the poverty line, which in 2000 was $17,690.  (See link below.)

Cities and counties with a higher cost of living tend to have higher living wage levels. The wage rates specified by living wage ordinances range from a low of $6.25 in Milwaukee to a high of $10.75 in San Jose.

Obviously, there's a disconnect between the economic definition of a living wage and the real world definition...

  2. $40,000

but 40k buys a lot more in america than it does in europe so in real terms

some one earning 40k in europe enjoys a standard of living some one in europe would have to be earning 60-70k

because land and food are cheaper in america and all the big brands are american so when they get transported to europe they have to pay taxes and transport cost
