  1. World opinion is against them invading a former territory.

    Diplomacy!

  2. So far there's been nothing. Given that Russia's part of G8, I doubt there'd be much that anyone would be doing to stop them. Last I read, Georgia was pulling back its troops in hope of a truce and negotiation.

  3. The UN is nothing but a really expenisve debate team and so far it looks like the US is going to stand by and watch.

  4. Hopefully place economic sanctions against Russia until they withdraw from Georgia and S. Ossetia.

  5. I t depends on the Russian actions  - if they go too far. It will have detrimental effect. US and NATO   will need to act and this will spike oil prices through the roof!

Clearly there will  be a general assembly condemnation vote, but other then that I doubt something serious will happen soon.

  6. Well the UN is probably going to do nothing as the only UN group with power is the Security Council and well Russia has Vetoing power.  I don't think they would approve military action against their own nation, but who knows, they maybe up for the fight.

The US will probably try to work with her NATO allies, which outside the UN Security Council has the second most power in the world.  NATO may send help, but chances are slim as they want to try ans solve this diplomatically and without any major military escalation.  Pretty much the world does not want the USA send carrier battle groups over, cause that could turn ugly really fast.

  7. I agree with Rob. The Russians will not fight a war against themselves. It stands to reason that nothing will happen. This conflict ill end with no real resolution.
