  1. It's basically a rating they give to the leagues on how well they do in European competitions like UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup.

In other words, its a list of the strongest leagues.

  2. I'm not sure if you are asking what it means, or for the rankings. If you want to know the rankings I've listed them in my sources.

  3. Here's a website that I often use for reference during the season. It updates the coefficients after every matchday.

It's very detailed and you'll want to navigate it a bit to learn about everything they have.

The main section I view during the season is in the row where it says "Latest"...

-- the "Country Coefficients" follows and ranks each league by how their clubs are progressing. Clubs that have the blue "not out" are still involved in UEFA play for 2008/09 season.

-- the "Country Ranking" updates the positions in the coeffient 5-year ranking. It is this ranking that determines how many clubs each league will be alloted for the 2009/10 UEFA campaign.

This is the main purpose of the coefficients. They determine how many clubs each league can enter in both the Champions League and Uefa Cup.

Like I said, very confusing when you first enter. It is more for the stat geek, but if it interests you, be patient, take your time, look around and eventually things will make sense.
