  1. GUN LAWS ARE NOT ABOUT SELF DEFENSE. READ THE CONSTITUTION!!!

  2. I think it is a necessary law when you consider why it was included in the constitution to allow people to bear arms.  American people are in a lot more danger of their government turning on them than the uk which has a much older constitution than the usa.  I applaud Americans for their refusal to give up their guns as we should all realise that you shouldn't leave the state as the only one armed.  The public should always be able to defend itself from its own government.

  3. Bloody crazy old fellow. The day we follow you down that route will be a very sad day indeed

Doingit - Thats right but all they really need is harsh language. I suppose in your reality the more powerful the weapon the police carry the more advanced the society. So when US cops all have their own stealth fighter you will have reached your zenith of civilisation.

  4. I think the freedom to bear arms is simply the freedom to get shot at.

  5. Given compared crime rates I'd say that they don't work. Even from the Constitutional defence against the state point of view they don't work. An untrained population with small arms would hardly present a threat to the organised and hi-tech US army. The real protection against tyranny is that the majority, including soliders, generals, people in government, wouldn't support one.

Whatever firearms may do in terms of self protection it's more than outweighed by:

    1. Accidents. The police shoot people by mistake. Kids find their parents weapons and shoot each other.

    2. Readily availible means of killing. People shoot people they don't like in the course of an argument, because they have a gun to hand.

    3. Escalation. If a criminal expects his target to by armed, he is more likely to be armed himself, and more likely to kill in the commission of a crime, to avoid being shot at. If the criminals have guns the police need them too... etc.

  6. Their police carry sticks instead of guns.

  7. Never understood how a gun is suppose to defend you, unless it's possible to shoot bullets out of the air - (I'm at work by the way so I can't view U-tube)
