My Bf is looking to come here to study for his BA/SW but were not quite sure how his current degree count towards this i.e what year of the degree programme he will enter here, I have heard conflicting reports of 2nd/3rd year and wondered if any of you guys had either been through it or knew somethin about it. UCAS were less than helpful. TY in advance

  1. There is no 'direct' equivalent in the U.K. to an Associates Degree.

The closest relation to an Associates Degree are A'levels and even after completion of these there it is unlikely to be transfered directly to an associates degree.

If your boyfriend is studying for his A'levels, then he should really contact the school which he wishes to attend about how many credits they would be worth. Each school will likely place a different value on them, so it could be worth talking to different schools in the area.

The value a school places on his A-levals depends largly on the following factors; the school, the grades he acheived, which A-levels he studied and the level of simular courses offered at the school.

I completed five A-levels; English, Psychology, Philosophy, History and Sociology and once I transfered to the the U.S. it turned out it was the equivilent of just over half of my associates degree, so I still had to complete a couple more semesters to complete my Associatess Degree.

If your boyfriend is not studying A-levels or A/S-Levels then the diploma he is studying for will not be worth the paper it is written on in the United States.
