you can plug in your computer to the tv, so ur tv is basically ur monitor. my big bro does it all the time, but i'm not sure if it's with his dvr receiver

It's not really used for much at the moment, but DirecTV's engineers are supposedly working on some really neat features.

Right now, some receivers are capable of connecting to a network via the USB cables (with an intel VIIV computer) for picture sharing and even OnDemand service.

Other than that, some people find that they need an extra fan for their receiver to keep it cool where it's located (usually in tight spaces) and they can be powered by the USB port, too. Also, if you have an Ipod it can charge via that USB connection, too.

for ipods and other things like that :D

so if you have a video on your ipod that you wish to play on your tv......

or other devices that can plug into usb ports.

its probably there for many other reasons to but yeah ^^
