What is the USB port on my Verizon cable box for?

I have an HD DVR set in my basement and it has a little USB port on the front. What is it used for? Can I connect an external hard drive and copy the shows I've recorded?

That port is for installing software updates from time to time which can be downloaded from your cable provider website.

Try it! But I'm pretty sure you will need an ESATA socket on the HD DVR to plug your external hard drive.

I use the USB port on my HD DVR for charging my PS3 controllers.
