The rolling suitcase for children.

I'm serious.  I spend a lot of time in airports, and I can tell you there is NO reason for your 6-year-old to be dragging her own Barbie-inspired suitcase around that's the size of any normal suitcase.  When the kids open it up while in line (and they always do) it's empty except a toy or two - and it's taking up valuable room in the overhead compartment.  Room that the rest of us need for actual luggage, thank you very much.

Styrofoam

Although it keeps your drink cold, it is one of the worst things for the planet.  It takes thousands of years for it to biodegrade and many harmful chemicals are produced when manufacturing styrofoam.  Those harmful chemicals leak into rivers, streams, watersheds, etc. and pollute the drinking water for humans and animals.

The first thing I can think of would perhaps be WMDs - chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons.

But then again, nuclear weapons did shorten WW2 and save the allies from a costly invasion that would've resulted in more deaths. And through the production of biological weapons, the military has actually found cures for other diseases. And for chemical weapons research, new useful chemicals that we use in non-military purposes have been created.

Everything is a double edged sword... My suggestion is you pick one of the above.

Its not a physical object or a direct invention of humans, but its was definitely created by us: poverty.

Its a by-product of numerous human inventions, i.e. class system, capitalism, money, governments.  Each of these individually are not necessarily "bad" inventions because they have helped the progress of the world.  But, a direct result of each of these is possibly the worst global problem.

The SUV: it burns way too much gas, most passengers are only one person, they roll over easily, and they can kill other people in smaller cars.

Every single invention man has ever made has wound up s******g us over.  Inventions to fix the screwover only create more screwovers.

So I simply picked the one that started us down the path.  Not really because its the worst, but because its the first.
