  1. That would depend on where you're from... A lot of these fruits such as Durian and Mangosteen that other people have mentioned are VERY abundant in places like Malaysia.  But I don't really think there is a world's rarest fruit, just very "exotic" fruit. I'm guessing you're from the west, probably USA.  So I would suggest Durian, Mangosteen, Rambutan, or Salak.  All of those are VERY hard to find in the USA and some you can't even get there.

  2. I love frankenberries....and mangosteens....

    also a good one is dragonfruit.....jack fruit....bread fruit.....yum yum....

  3. FRANKENBERRIES

  4. One of the world’s rarest trees has become a must-have for green-fingered Welsh patriots. Nearly 10 years ago a birdwatcher noticed an apple tree growing beside a house on Bardsey, off the Lln Peninsula, and alerted Welsh orchard expert Ian Sturrock.

One of the world’s leading authorities on apple species, based in Kent, later declared it the rarest apple tree in the world. Now Mr Sturrock – who specialises in growing native Welsh fruit trees by grafting small pieces of them onto rootstock – cannot keep up with demand for Bardsey apple saplings.

Having sent them across Britain and overseas, he is now sending wood from a Bardsey tree to a nursery in the US – for grafting on the other side of the pond. Americans have been asking for the trees, but strict US import rules prevent saplings being sent there from Wales.

  5. I wouldn't say dragon fruit because i got it in Evansville, Indiana which is... well not very good about exotic produce. I think it's one of those things where you have to be looking at exactly the right time.

  6. I would disagree with the above answers because the Durian, mangosteen, rambutan, goose berry (goji), Lychees, star fruit, passion fruit, and many more are tropical fruits, also apples, berries & etc, they NOT RARE because they plenty in other countries of the world they are plenty & available cultivated & shipped fresh or in canned/frozen in many asian markets & other foregin markets that is available as imports. Rare would be like an endangered variety of fruit, or something that was thought to be extinct but is not & is recently discovered to be thriving in the wilderness. I know a botonist/does those research work for the gov. but forgot what it was is some sort of variety of something its found in the wilderness & to get it took some climbing & said he had to document it & its who you know will get you to know & maybe sample a taste of it they are trying to cultivate it, its actually who you know that can tell you what are some of rarest fruit of the world.

  7. Well, I can safely say that it is the DRAGONFRUIT....because I am dying to try it, and NOBODY CAN GET IT....I have tried every grocer, including wild oats and whole foods.

The only place I haven't tried yet is jungle jim's market in Fairfield OH.

  8. maybe a cherimoya

  9. Dorian? (i wouldn't suggest eating it.  it grows in the Philippines and i haven't heard of it growing anywhere else.  BUT it makes me gag.  i think it has an acquired taste because some of my relatives love it.  your choice though.)

  10. In japan a single black watermellon just sold for almost $6,000. Very few of this variety are grown on an island in japan, and the first ones of the harvest fetch high sums.

    Now that's a pricy fruit!

You may also be interested in fresh mangosteen, it was illegal in the US, until recently
