I just got a job at the YMCA here, and I am wondering if anyone knows how vacation works. I know, I know...thinking about taking time off when I've just started...BUT, we've had this vacay planned since last year, and it isn't until November....How long do I have to wait before I take time off?

  1. I've worked for them too. But I can't remember. And I wasn't really thinking about taking any at the time..humm Try asking your supervisor, but not too soon. I would ask in a month. After doing the best job you could possibly do, to get browny points... Unless there's some manual somewhere in the building with hiring policy's .. a last resort check the companies website.

I think from experience though, most companys you have to be there 90 days or something to ask. Sometimes you don't earn paid time off for a year.

but I'm also young.. have had a lot of crappy jobs that probably would only have the worst benefits package as well, that I was so scared all the time to loose the job... I never asked for paid leave or sick days of any sort.

As a general rule of thumb give 2 weeks notice if you do want a certain day off and your supervisor could probably work around it if their good.
