  1. 220 V AC, 50 Hz

  2. Voltage in France (and most of Europe) is 220-240 V AC, 50 Hertz frequency.  Continental Europe uses 2 round pin plugs, while UK/Ireland use a chunkier square pin design.

For common appliances people bring while traveling (hair-dryer, curling iron) you'll need a voltage converter and a plug adapter.

Laptops only need a plug adapter, since the power supply will convert any AC input to DC automatically.

Be careful with any other type of electrical appliance (digital camera, MP3 player).  Do some research before trying to plug it in, as you may fry the device.

Of course, any standard battery operated device (AAA, AA, B, C, D) will be fine, since you can find these spare batteries anywhere in the world.

  3. 220 ! definetely !

If the appliance you're bringing to France is a laptop/notebook computer or some other "high tech" electronic device, it was probably built to support multiple voltages. This surge protector will plug into the "Schuko" and "Europlug" outlets found in France and accept one or two standard U.S./Canadian appliance plugs. Your appliance has to support 220-230 volt electricity though, because the surge protector does not modify the voltage. If your appliance only supports 110-120 volt American/Canadian electricity, don't use this surge protector. Use a plug/outlet adapter and a step-down transformer.

Do you need a phone/fax/modem adapter for France?

Just about everybody has a cell phone and broadband internet service these days, but what if there are no cell towers or network jacks? Many people opt to bring a land-based phone as a backup option, or you may need to use an old fashioned dial-up modem to connect to the internet. You may need to send a fax. In that case, you may want to have a phone/fax/modem adapter for France on hand.

This phone/fax/modem adapter plugs into a phone jack of the type used in France, and supplies an American phone jack (as well as another France phone jack, so you can keep that phone plugged in too.) Now you can use your phone, fax or modem in France.

Option 3: Buy a travel kit for France. The kit contains the most commonly needed adapters for France.

This travel adapter kit contains a grounded adapter for the Schuko outlet type, and a non-grounded adapter for the Europlug outlet. The kit also includes a phone/fax/modem adapter for France and a reverse polarity phone couple which is sometimes needed. All adapters come in a convenient carrying case.

Next Step: Buy a step-down transformer to convert the 220-230 volt electricity in France to a voltage your appliance accepts.

    Electrical Specifications in France:

    Voltage: 220-230 Volts

    (U.S. voltage is 110-120 volts)

    Frequency: 50 Hz

    (U.S. frequency is 60 Hz)

Travel adapters will allow you to plug in, but they do not modify the electricity at all. Your appliance may or may not accept the electricity supplied in France as-is. The voltage supplied may need to be modified so that your appliance can use it.

  4. hi! I'm french. The voltage is 220 in France. but our sockets are different (even different from England), you have to buy a special adaptator.

  5. If you're in the US and traveling abroad make sure you purchase an ADAPTOR and a CONVERTER ... unless your appliances say that they can accept voltage up to 240.  Items like laptops fall into this category.

  6. 220 - 240 ac

  7. Its nominal 220 across Europe
