  1. They are safeties, that is what their position is called.  Safeties are sometimes called Strong or Free or just a Rover.  They are part of the defensive backfield.

  2. It's a defensive backfield position.  Free Safety is more of a center fielder and the strong safety lines up on the tight end side and plays more man coverage.

  3. Yes, DB.

  4. All cornerbacks, strong safeties and free safties are defensive backs.

The actual position of a safety is "safety".

  5. Defensive Back, but I guess that you already know that now...  Anyway, I just wanted 2 easy points.  Thanks!

  6. yes you are correct in that statement.

  7. There's a free safety and a strong safety.. it depends on which side of the field you play.

Defensive backs aren't just safteys, cornerbacks are considered DBs also.

  8. well DB is the name for either a safety or corner.  the more specific name is strong or free safety

  9. The traditional 4 defensive backfield positions are: Left Cornerback, Right Cornerback, Strong Safety, and Free Safety.  Usually the cornerbacks are the smaller and the faster of group, while the safeties are more inclined to come up on a play and make the hit, similar to the role of the Linebackers.
