  1. Affecting the environment is the key word. In actual sense, it is a relative word. We are unable to quantify the damage caused to the environment. We all know that plastics are highly non-biodegradable, which means you dispose the bag in the land, it will years before it disintegrates, unlike a food waste. Textile cloth, wood are biodegradable but the rate of degradation is very slow. If you incinerate plastics, many toxic pollutants are emitted which may be of public health concerns. We can recycle plastics, but they come with cost. The only other way is to adopt the concept of " Reduce, Reuse, Recyle" and wherever possible, encourage environmentally friendly prodducts.

  2. recycle

  3. keep it aside for recycling , there is no other effective way available till this day

  4. By 3 things

    Not throwing them away

    Using them again & again

If torn, then also use for storing old toys, books, paper, pencil etc. or cover them around bulbs after colouring them. They'll look good.

  5. First of all, in today's world, many merchandise are over packaging. Appropriate package (plastics) are necessary to protect the items from the elements, extend the shelf-life, health reason, etc. However, we should start to think about reducing the unnecessary ones - layers and layers of wrapping, for example. In many European countries, the stores start charging for plastics bags. That will allow the customers to think about if they really need the bags. In US, usually they put items you purchased in the bag regardless. I usually have to tell the sales person I don't need a bag. It's becoming rediculous when you go to the DVD rental to get a DVD and they put it in plastics bag.

The plastics that are accepted by recycling program are limited. Many community recycling program only recycle plastics withe the 1 and 2 labels. Any others would go to the dump sites.

New biodegardable polymer and recyclable polymer are being developed. Hopefully that would help to minimize the environmental impact.

  6. By eating it or recycle it.

  7. The ideal solution is to recycle them. The problem is that there is a large number of plastics, many of which cannot be blended together.

If one can segregate the waste into different classes of plastics, then it is a simple matter to reprocess them.

There are some trials on to breakdown the plastics to the basic chemicals. This is a more expensive way. This solves the problem. There could be some impact on the environment from the processing plant.

In Japan and some western countries PVC scrap is made into traffic barriers, lane dividers and such non-human contact applications.
