do some protect the hands better, if they're just for working out, should i get heavier ones, do the smaller ones not tire you as much, does the size inside the glove change (where the hand goes)?

  1. Please do not listen to AS who wrote a answer to this breaking your hands from boxing all the time is a total lie, the more you hit things the tougher the skin on your muscles becomes and to a small extent the bones 'calcify' meaning they to become tougher as the body adapts to pretty much anything you can throw at it, look at muay thai fighters who used to kick trees to make their shins harder!!

To answer your question use 10oz for bag and pad work and 16oz for sparring, there is no point using smaller gloves when sparring as you want to improve your technique, not try and knock your partner out.

Finaly only more padding is added to inner 'glove' its self should stay the same size, unless of course you buy smaller or larger fitted gloves.

  2. i would never use 8 OZ gloves for heavy bags, they are way to small and there is no need to use a glove that light. Remember that the longer you train the more wear and tear you get on your hands. It doesnt matter who you are, hitting heavybags everyday breaks your hands down.

I wont use less then 12 for heavybag or for sparring. 8 is only good for double end bags and hand pads.

Obviously the heavier glove you use the quicker your arms will get tired. The good side to that is that when you spar or if you fight you will get so used to heavy gloves that whatever you wear will feel like nothing.

If they are just for working out i would go 12 or 14. you might get tired quicker with 16 if your new to the sport. 14 has a good amount of padding but is heavy enough to give your arms a good workout.

Also the bigger you are the bigger the gloves you should get. If your really small then you might go with 12 or 14s, if your really big, go with something heavier to make your workout tougher.

  3. when it comes to a fight the weight of the glove is decided by the weight division. when you are training for a fight it is good to have 3 different size gloves. one pair should be very small gloves like 8 ounces and these would be bag gloves to use to work on speed. Another pair of bag gloves should be the large 16 ounce gloves to work on endurance and lastly the sparing gloves should be the same size as what you will use in the fight.
