  1. Grading on a bell curve means that the grade a student receives is in comparison with the rest of the students. So, you can see how well you did relatively. However, it also means that only a few spots are reserved for the highest grade, so if one person earned that spot in one school another person may have gotten a lower grade because although they did very well, more people did better than them than the test-taker at the first school.

    If you're in the top percentile of test-takers, usually grading on a curve hurts you.
