I am looking for a new flat screen TV because mine is not going to work after February, but I know I can get the converter thing but that to me just means i need to make more space for the box and that is one reason why i got a flat screen tv so it doesn't take up a lot of room.

  1. The advantages are

You get a clearer picture for not only tv channels but for your Movies as well or any other electronics you plan on using with your new tv set such as - dvd player, xbox, computer, etc

As for high definition channels there are some (depends on which service you have) but not many ,as time progresses more HD channels will be added to the current lineup.

    The disadvantages are

Money if its a factor !

I currently own a 50" Samsung HP-T5054 and i gotta say its a very good experience to see how far we've come !

    R.I.P Tube T.V's

    P.S

Say goodbye to the analog world!

    Welcome to the Digital World!

  2. It's like buying a speedboat and putting it in your backyard pool.

Standard def (from the 1940's) looks like c**p on a high resolution display.

You need a source of HD.  This is often included in "Basic" cable service, or you can put up an antenna and often get 5-7 channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.)

Note: Some Hitachi plasmas offer wireless. So you mount the TV on a wall with just a power cord, but the box that hooks things up to the TV is separate and can be located to the side or back of the room. This can reduce clutter.

  3. well, it's pretty much useless, except for the look. since you don't have HDTV programs, the tv will just showthe regular 3x4 format with a gray area around the sides. but there aren't too many HDTV channels out there, anyway--yet, at least.
