I want to move there for a year after high school, but I am just wondering what the drinking age / age of majority is because my mom wants me to be concidered an 'adult' before I move anywhere for a year, and also that I can easily get a job. (I want to work at a bar or something)

Thanks!

  1. I heard on the news they want to shift it to 21 because of binge drinking. Anyway, that's a long way off and yer, it's 18

  2. Legal age for drinking and smoking is 18. But people do those things before then.

If you want to work at a bar, you will have to do a short course. You cant get a job with alcohol just by applying.

  3. Currently its 18 but there is a very strong push to follow some of the USA states and make it 21 because the 18-21 year olds have gone mad with binge drinking and the alcohol induced violence in most Cities is totally out of control.

  4. 18 years old in all states.

  5. Throughout Australia, 18 is the age of majority and is also the drinking age. If you want to work in a bar, you need to do a simple RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) course which can be done online. Just google rsa course australia for info.
