I live in Ascension Parish in Louisiana, and they normally have a program called Head-start, children can begin to attend Head start at the age of 3, but the must be potty train, when the child reached age 4 you have the option to let them stay in head start with the babies,or they can begin a program at the Elementary School call a 4 year old program they stay there for 1 school year, and at the age of 5 when they return they can go to  PRE-K, at the age of 6 it would be kindergarten, but keep in mind that if your child has a late birthday I think that it's after October, they will be a little behind.

i live in Houston and the age for pre-k is 4 and kinder is 5.

pre-k goes half a day, kinder is now a full day
