spiritual? Is it about being mindful of your environment and living in the here and now and feeling a connection to others? Does it ever involve a belief in a supernatural deity? I don't mean to sound like I'm interrogating people, sorry if it sounds like that.

  1. I read an article today with a turn of phrase I liked:

"the intangible realm of will and choice and of gratitude and conscience,  "

  2. No deity, we are collectively it. We're here to learn and advance.

  3. The purpose behind increasing our spirituality is to progress from our present false beliefs to truer ones.

This most certainly involves a belief in God.

  4. God is the ultimate reality from which all created things issue forth:

"By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. "

    Hebrews 11:3

God Himself is Spirit. Jesus said:

"God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

    John 4:24

Until we are born of the Spirit, we are out of touch with the ultimate reality that is God. Therefore Jesus said:

"I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again......no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again. "

    John 3:3-7

Therefore if one desires to come into the full experience of God and ultimate reality, he must be born of the spirit and restored to a living relationship with God.

This is only possible through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, who died to take away the guilt of sin which separates us from God, and restore us to a living relationship with the Living God. This is Life in the highest order - to know the Uncreated Life of the Creator God.

Only then can you begin to fulfill your destiny.

  5. It's surpassing basic desires and knowing there is more to life then ego and identity.  It's seeing everyone as one and life as just an experience that's temporary.

(in my opinion).  I would go mad if this was just all there was to life.  Rising above it all is me being spiritual as I know it.

I believe everyone is equal in spirit regardless of how they look, what they do, achieve and have as a human being.  An awareness of this puts things into perspective.  Which is why spirituality is important.

  6. Spirituality is not getting there but the journey itself, is the end. ***Luke 24:15  And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. e-sword.com

  7. Cultivating a sense of superiority and mild euphoria by convincing yourself that you are an enlightened being and everyone else is a clueless automaton.

  8. For me it means believing in more than the physical world. Like believing people have souls. I just don't buy any of the so called answers and explanations provided by religion.

  9. A spiritual man desires to do God's will every day of his life.

A spiritual man, in contrast with “a fleshly man”, think in line with God, whose thoughts are higher than those of man. (Isa. 55:8, 9, 11)

This thinking ability comes to those who listen to God’s spokesmen, particularly Jesus Christ, ‘the one who has explained Jehovah.’ (John 1:18)

Let us cite an example. Jesus’ apostles were all humble, hardworking and devoted men. These qualities made them receptive to Jesus’ teaching. They saw his miracles, heard his discourses, drew on his strength, watched his manner of dealing with friend and foe, and observed his stand for right principles.

He taught them about God, His great love, the good news of the kingdom, the worship that is acceptable to God and countless other things that helped them become spiritual men.

This marvelous training imparted to them “the mind of Christ,” the feelings, temperament and views of Christ, so that they could judge things in his way, which is also Jehovah’s way. Spiritual men see things from “the standpoint of our God.”—1 Cor. 2:16; 1 Pet. 4:6; Jas. 1:27.

Today, spiritual men do their best to help others learn the "truth" about God's Word. For it is God's will for all sorts of people to "be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of the truth" (John 17:17; 1Timothy 2:3,4)
