here is the question originally. In 1990the median for a family in North Carolina was about 32,000. By 2000 the median was 48,000. use these data to predict the median income for 2010. So i know that the answer to the question is 64,000. Ok so my teacher asked us to make ans equation for that problem. and then using that equation find the median income for the years 2070 3010 3000 3040.

P.S WHEN YOU ARE GIVING THE EQUATION PLEASE BE SPECIFIC. IF YOU DONT KNOW THE ANSWER PLEASE DONT JUST MAKE ONE UP!

  1. ok so in ten years, it gained 16,000.  so each year it gains 1600.  equation:  total income= 32,000 +1600(# of years since 1990)

2070 is 80 years from 1990 so.... i think you can handle it from there, just plug in the # of years since 1990  and then plug it into your calculator.  good luck n thanks for answering my ?!!

  2. The equation is most likely the equation for a line.

    y2 - y1 = m(x2 - x1) with (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) being points on that line.

If you know the values of (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), you can find the slope m of that line.  Use the dates for the x values, and the median for y values.  Set x1 = 1990 and y1 = 32,000.  And then use substitution to find the remaining values.

  3. in 1990 they median was 32,000, and in 10 years the median increased by 16,000. so i estimate the media with be around 64,000 in 2010.
