I know its a program use to mess your computer up but what exactly is it?

It's a virus designed to extort money from you by demanding you pay for the "full version". to remove the viruses that it has "detected".

XP Antivirus is malware, or rather scareware.

It is a malicious program that masquerades as legitimate software. It creates harmless entries in your registry that pose as viruses and XP Antivirus just happens to detect them and tells a person that they are viruses, when they are harmless, albeit annoying. A person not educated in this field will assume that it is for real. The program will state that the person must purchase the program to remove the "viruses." It will scare the person into buying it, thus the name "scareware."

Unless you have a program like Spybot or Ad-Aware, the program will remain in your computer and pop up every you turn it on. The "uninstall" option will not work at all. If the person is stupid enough to make the purchase, the program will still not work, and your computer will be plagued with pop-ups and could possibly send nasty things to other computers.

It infected my mom's laptop, but I got it off completely. If your computer is infected with XP Antivirus, go to www.Filehippo.com and download these programs:

Windows Defender - this is included if you have Vista

Spybot: Search and Destroy 1.6

Lavasoft Ad-Aware

HijackThis - this will dig deeper into the computer and get out trace elements of the program, but BE CAREFUL when using as a mistake will totally mess up your computer. Use www.hijackthis.de to analyze a logfile when you do a scan.

You must use all 4 of these programs to remove it completely. These programs are very good and are 100% free of charge, and yes, they WILL fix the problem. It fixed mine and it has not been back since.

That virus is horrible and who ever created it should be beating. :(

This malware software (http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant...  is the best at getting rid of antivirus xp 08.  Just run a full scan with this software and the virus will be deleted.

Its malware downloaded by a virus called virtumonde.

You can use anything to get rid of antivirus xp 2008, but unfortunately, it WILL come back.

They only way is to use a program that will detect virtumonde and clean it....its extremely hard to get rid of virtumonde and the only programs that can do it reliably are either

Super anti spy ware

or

Windows defender.
