What is the appeal of going out to bars?

Going out to bars seems to be one of the main things that young adults do for fun. When weekends arrive and people want something fun to do with friends, the answer always seems to be going out to a bar. I’ve even been at good parties where everyone decides to leave the party and go to a bar. But I absolutely don’t get it. I’m 27 years old and have been to a ton of bars and I have never enjoyed myself. The drinks are way over-priced, the music is too loud to talk over, the environment is crowded with strangers, and there’s not really anything there to do. It just seems boring. Everyone just kind of stands (or sits) around and shouts over the noise to the people they came with. It seems like so much more fun to hang around at someone’s house and drink. Why does everyone else on earth besides me think a bar environment is so fun????

  1. socialization, men, women , hooking up possibly, music, relaxation

  2. getting laid

  3. You hit the nail on the proverbial head, my friend. What is the point? If you were going out to dinner and sat at a bar until your table is ready, that is fine, but just to hang out at a bar hoping to get lucky is a great waste of time and money, in my opinion. Do you really want to hook up with someone who hangs out at bars, just so they can hook up with someone who will buy them drinks and maybe get drunk enough to want to bed them? That is so lame. With all the lunatics and STD's floating around these days it is like playing Russian Roulette with your body and your life. There are so many other ways to meet people, good people, intelligent people.

  4. People there are too drunk to notice your flaws, that allows many of those freaks a chance to mate.

I'm with you on this one.  The only bars I can stand are ones with the trivia boxes in them.

  5. For me its dancing and having a good time with friends. I love to dance until my feet hurt, Its a good time and you can let loose.

When I don't feel like dancing but I want to get out, I go out to a wine bar where the music is nice but not loud and annoying with tons of drunkards.

  6. people go for lots of reasons--males can get over  their shyness by having a couple drinks---people go because they don't have any other life--to be  social with friends and maybe shoot some pool ---many reasons--thinkabout it

  7. I don't go to them really. They are just low-class and the people at them are so brash and rude. Guys, I mean. I think guys like it because they want to pick up girls, and occasionally hookers hang out there at the really nasty ones, though I've never been to one like that myself.

  8. getting drunk, and then meeting a 'hot' girl and getting laid

  9. bad habit  dont go next  time ,

    while driving    back to  home

        lot  of   truble

  10. You are wise for your age.  It took me 15 years to realize the same thing since I turned 21.  Not that I went out to bars every night, and I still don't mind the occasional drink at a quiet bar/restaurant, but I hate those crowded clubs and downtown bars.

Like you said, overpriced drinks, standing elbow to elbow with people, have to shout over loud music, have to wait to get a drink for 10 minutes at a time, lines for bathrooms, etc.

The only nights I like now are the trivia nights, and only at bars with small crowds.

  11. I like to go to the bar if they have pool tables. I'm not too interested otherwise. I not one to just sit at the bar and drink. i have to be doing something. Half the time I don't even drink when I go to the bar. I just go because I like to play pool.
