  1. everywhere you want to limit the range of a signal, for example if you are controling a system you can have a 15v error signal , but you have to limit the action to -5 to +5v for your lineal control, then you clamp the signal to that value

    A clamper circuit I think is designed to hold a signal (current, voltage) to a specified value. This can be done with transistors, diodes, resistors etc.

    You can use a diode as a switch. In simple terms by doping a diode to a certain bias, and adding a capacitor, you get a NMOS or PMOS transistor. Transistors can be applied to radios (BJT transistor), digital logic etc.
