It is very important to any physical engineering curriculum.

It is critical in mechanical engineering.  As important as calculus, or mechanics.

Thermodynamics is concerned with the conversion of different forms of energy. All Engineering students require thermodynamic study for one purpose or the other.

Chemical, Mechanical Engineers etc use it extensively while Electronics, Computers etc use it less often but they are still required to study it.
