My 6 year old is pretty proficient at computer/internet use (puzzles, education sites etc.). Santa brought a Webkinz and she wants to be on the internet all the time. I was thinking about a specific time allotment per week with time given/taken away for chores done/not done. I am trying to come up with an appropriate amount to start with. Thanks!

  1. during school days my daughter gets no more than an hour but that is strictly educational and maybe 30 minutes later on after dinner for games

over the weekend she gets an hour educational and an hour maybe 2 (depends on if its raining) for games.

game time though is always broken up. i dont want her to get use to sitting there for an hour straight. mine is 8 now

  2. for a 6 year old,one hour is enough on net...

  3. I would say let them on for 20 minutes a day. I wouldnt want them to get addicted so young. Maybe reward her if she does chores and you can add time (5 mins) or if she does something bad, 15 mintues. But really 6 is a little young to be on for 2 - 6 hrs a day!

  4. i would say about 2-3 hours they should be able to have fun but not just on the computer if there on the computer all the time when they get older they will be a lazy bum and would rather be on the computer than out side playing with friends.

  5. My just turned 7 year old gets 45 minutes per day on it.  It would really help to have a timer of some sort, because if I get busy, he won't get off the computer without being reminded.

  6. I would say with TV and computer combined, no more than an hour a day.  I know that is not that long, but it is better for him to play and explore his environment in other ways.  Learning happens through play and interaction with other children and adults.

  7. I really think you need to determine the appropriate amount of time for you child.  You know what your child is capable of and what she needs to do and you also are aware of how she is spending her time on the computer.  There really is no appropriate amount of time across the board for all 6 year olds.  I think if it is interfering with her daily schedule, cut it back.

  8. I think it is so much more important for a child to spend most time in social, physical and family activities for emotional and age appropriate development. I would suggest no more than thirty minutes or less a day. As they grow they will be using the computer for research and homework along with games. They need the real world as much as possible.

  9. maybe half hour a day with both of u on it
