Question:

What is the appropriate size tank for this?

Well, i have a 8 x 10 x 6 inch tank dimension (don't know how many gallons it is), and it is an unequal sided pentagon. Recently, i've had the urge to add an african drawf frog to the tank, along with 1.5 inch beta and .5 inch mystery snail, but was wondering if my tank could support all three, along with the small decorations i already have. If not, what would be the appropriate size tank - i think the one i have is 1.5 gallons to 2.5 g, and was thinking of buying one along the lines of 5 gallons. But my parents are extremely frugal, and was wondering if anyone could also post links to some cheap five gallon tanks; they won't buy anything over 35 dollars, just for adding a 3 dollar frog to my company. Please help and reply.

PS. Could anyone tell me the size, in gallons, of the tank i have now. Thank you everyone.

  1. well you have 480 cubic inches..this is about 2.077 gallons.

you can only fit 2 small fish or one large fish.

i would recommend looking on craiglist.com

this site is a site full of things, including fish tanks.

Also, a frog and beta don't go, why not get a turtle and few tetras or platties. try some combinations that will work for each specie. You don't want any specie feeling threatened. Also, frogs make a mess and need marsh environment. Beta need fresh water with space.

    good luck

  2. You can add 1 bettas, and either 1 mystery snail, they get 2 nches, OR 2 african dwarf frogs (They are very social) but not both, ot that would be to crowded. Make sure you cycle the tank b4 you add the frogs b/c they hate ammonia. I am guessing the tank is 1.5 or 2 gallons....

Also, if you are keeping those things in there you need a filter, and a hydro mini aquarium heater that is  7.5 watts to keep the water warm, unless it is 75F or above in your house.

  3. You tank is less than 2 gallons, sorry but you are pushing it keeping anything in there.

See if you can find a decent size tank 2nd hand, with a bit of luck you might find a complete 15 or 20 gal setup within your budget. Even if it needs some extras you can replace filters, air pumps etc later.

Check out yard sales or online sites for a good deal.

I have only paid cash for 2 of my 6 tanks, others have been gifts or trades. ;-)

  4. No snail for sure.....he will run out of food, pollute the tank and get big in time. A golden apple won't multiply in tank but every other type will. buy one get 100 a month for life. Snails suck.

    A betta no problem..

Some frogs? if it has a lid sure if not they'll jump out in the first week.

I would go either a betta or a frog for every gallon it is but don't mix as frogs are super sensitive to water quality.

Remember african dwarf frogs eat frozen blood worms as there primary diet. you ready to feed those.

If you put a betta in with the frogs it might be a disaster as Betta's love frozen blood worms. He might eat them all and the frogs starve. Then the super high protein of the worms locks up his digestive track and he will die.

That's the primary reason you don't mix the two and why its best just to choose one.

Those frogs are cute but there retards and hide alot but you may be able to keep 3 in there if theres a lid.

Read up on them and go from there
