  1. You don't mention which country. For the UK the average is probably influenced by the hundreds of the stations in the southeast, a large number of which fit 8 cars, or about 160m.

    Height, about 1m above the top of the rail.


  2. I'm sure it varies somewhat by country... and most importantly the EQUIPMENT in use !

    For CALTRAIN: a commuter line in the area of San Francisco, California... the cars are 83 feet in length, and the train runs a 4 or 5 car "consist" plus the diesel engine (F40PH).

    CalTrain's stations run from a minimum of 500 feet thru 800 feet in length for the passenger platform.  The stations are all outdoors, so there is no "roof" height.  The height of the platform above the rails ranges from level (Santa Clara Station) to the normal of 15 inches (to bring the door level to platform level).
