Hi. I am travelling through Greyhound in a couple of months and will have a lay over in Ottawa for about 2 hours (from 12am-2am). I am just wondering what that area is like at that time of night or at any other time and if there are restaurants, stores, or malls in or around the area (walking distance).

Thank you!

-Holly

Bonjour.

Merci, Holly

  1. the area really isn't the best actually, especially at that time of night. Any shops close by on Bank street would be closed by then, and the above mentioned bars are a 10-15 min walk through a "dimly lit" locale.

I'm not saying there's a serious threat to you walking in the area or anything, it's only that you won't be missing much in that short a time and at that time of night. Especially if it's a weeknight.

If I were you, I'd enjoy a book and grab a bite to eat at the terminal. If you're desperate to get out, then take the above advice (there's also the Clocktower pub just south of the Queensway off Bank street..slightly closer)

    Bon Voyage!

  2. The Greyhound station is not far from stuff that will be open. It is at Kent and Catherine and when you come out you'll be facing a car wash and a bowling alley that might or might not still be open.

One street east of Kent is Bank St. On Bank you'll find stuff to kill time. As you walk east on Catherine to Bank you'll want to go north on Bank (away from the highway).

The first few bars are kind of sketchy but after a block or two you'll get into some Irish pubs. There is a 24 hour Internet Cafe. Various pizza, sub, coffee shops.

You don't have time to walk but if you went 3 more blocks east from Bank you'd be on Elgin which is one of the 2 main club / bar districts. It is a 15 minute walk from Greyhound so not out of range just pushing it. Same as on Bank you want to go away from the highway.

Here you'll have a lot of choice. Much more than Bank St. St Louis Wings and Ribs, Pubs, Clubs, Elgin St Diner which is an institution from after club late night eating. It is 15 minutes each way so not much time to eat without cutting it close.
