What is the average 5k time for a 14 year old girl???

Question

I just started high school cross country and I was wondering what the average time for a runner my age (14) girl. Also a 9th grader would be???? My time is 30 min is that bad???? I have never run 5k in my life.

Hi! I am a 14 year old female freshman that just started running xc as well! I'd say that your time is fine. My first 5k time was a 32:23 and over the course of 2 months I was able to get it down to a 24:34 so that's like 7:49 minutes faster. I've run all of my 5ks in the woods which might add a bit of time as opposed to road races which tend to be run faster since theyre flat. I've been averaging 20 miles a week which helped and I've been training 5 days a week unless I had a meet, then I'd train 4 days + the milage for race day's warm up, race, cool down yadda yadda. Just train hard. For new runners like us its a lot about getting more miles into our legs! Developing our stride and all of that good stuff will come with literally practicing running.
