  1. As for me my Autistic son is 5 and will be 6 in Dec.  He just started to speak in the past year.  He has mild hearing loss and recently got hearing aides.  I had to stay on the Dr's to get the testing.  He leaves off the beginning and endings of words.  There isn't really an exact time it can happen each case is different.  We used sign language to communicate until he could get verbal language, then slowly transitioned and he is mainly verbal now.---Hope it helps


  2. There is no average age for a child with an ASD to start speaking again. Some children will and will be good fluent speakers and some never speak. The best thing parents can do for no verbal children is to learn sign language and to keep working with the child and a speech therapist. Nothing about any child with autism is ever average.
