  1. Wow!  Everyone is putting a high age group up there.  My husband and I are 24 years old.  We are infertile.  We are looking into adoption.  I know my sister, before she passed, was also looking into adoption.  She, at the time, was 20 years old.  I don't know the average who actually adopt.  The the average age of couples WANTING to adopt has to start much lower I would think.

  2. Although there is certainly a mathematical average age for adoptive parents, I don't think it has much real meaning.  I adopted a boy last summer (he was 19 months old at the time), and I'm 41.  In international adoptions, there are rules about age (e.g. no one younger than ??? nor older than ???, depending on the country), but in the US, there is no upper age limit.  Of course I have no idea why you're asking the question, but I hope what ever answers you get don't discourage you if you're thinking of adopting!

  3. I would have to say in my experience it is couples 35-45yrs old.

  4. Well we were 23 & 36 when we first had a child placed with us 3 years ago.

  5. first time we were 29 and 25.  Yes i'm a cougar in the making.  he he he

second time we were 39 and 35. The younger ones are trainable too.  J/K kinda.

    :)

  6. Not sure of the "average" nation-wide, but we are 28 / 29 and have been waiting for a year now.   About half of the waiting families at our agency are around the same age.

  7. I think for IA, the parents seem to be older.

We were 31 the first time around. Now we are 34 and still considered to be on the "young side" for IA.

Most of my agencies couples are in their early to late 40s.

  8. im not sure. right now my husband and i 23 and 28. but we cant adopt right now, and when we are able to we plan to adopt older children, or babies only if they're multiples, have a disability, or for some reason arent as "adoptable" as other babies.im just hoping i at least dont hit thirty before i adopt. my husband, i dont believe, will have that option. haha.

P.S.  i have nothing against those who want healthy newborns though. every person that can adopt and feels in their heart they're up to the challenge should. every adopted newborn is one less that will go through the h**l of foster care.

  9. It depends....I'd say 30-35. Because by this time if they've tried for a  few yrs and did fertility treatments, they want to adopt because they realize having kids might not be in the cards for them. My brother and sister in law adopted at age 30/28 because they tried everything and knew because of a problem with my brother they'd never be able to have kids.

  10. 30-35 id say

  11. We are 23 and 35. Im sure were not average....
