  1. The markup between sticker price and dealer invoice on an 08' Focus is between $1,400 for a loaded SES to $400 for an S model. Generally speaking if your looking at one that has a sticker price over $17,600 you should be able to get min $600 off of the sticker price AND minus any rebates from that. If the one your looking at is under $17,500 you shouldnt expect more than $300-400 off the price AND minus the rebate.

For an example we have a 4dr SE on our lot with auto, cruise, and ABS as the only options. Sticker price is $17670

I would be willing to sell you that car for $16,968

    then subtract $1500 rebate   =              $15468

That would be a good deal.

The invoice price of the car is $16,668

If you really work at it you might be able to get one for invoice but I would be happy with $300 over, they are a very popular car right now and theres not much supply around.

  2. There's a lot of ways to bring down the price. Given that its a ford I am sure you should be able to do it. Since this is the only car that's actually selling for Ford, The amount you can bring down is reduced compared to other Ford vehicles. Here's few ways to do it.

The base model with Automatic Transmission has a Invoice Price is $15,279 including a Destination charge of $670. You can find out the invoice price of your specific model with options on Cars.com

    http://www.cars.com/go/configurator/summ...

To the invoice amount you need to add Documentation Fee for your State. Also add any Advertising fees. Here's a list of them for all States.

The same article will also tell you the fees you should not pay.  Also note that ford is offering $1500 Cashback. So you have to deduct that from the final price.

Next start dealing with only the Internet Manager or Fleet Managers of the Dealerships in your area. Use Fighting Chance

I have personally used it couple of times for great effect. Both times I got Bellow invoice pricing for a Great Selling Domestic nameplate. Worth every penny of the $35 you spend.

Last But Not Least. Two Golden Rules.

    1. Arrange your own financing from a Credit union. Ford is offering $500 Cash back  (on top of $1500 mentioned above.) if you take their financing. Do so only if their rate is equal to or less than that of the Credit union. You have to do the math.

    2. Do not disclose the fact that you may finance during your price negotiations. Give the impression that you have cash in hand. Also NEVER disclose the fact that you have a Trade in (if you do) during the negotiation. Get it appraised AFTER price is fixed for the Focus.

If you can sell your existing car on Craig's List on your own. Don't trade.

  3. you need to find the actual cost invoice online of the car you want to buy and then add $500 - $1000 over invoice to negotiate.  Please do keep in mind that this doesn't include freight/destination charge and set up fees.

  4. Look it up on edmunds.com

Generally, low end cars in this price range ( Yaris, Fit, G5, Versa) are marked up only like $400 over invoice. Many of these fuel efficient cars are not being discounted at all currently due to the fact that gas savers are hot, and you don't discount when you have a hot product.

    Good Luck!
