  2. It depends on where you go.

    In a pizzeria 1 pizza + 1 beer it will cost you from 8 to 12 €.

in a trattoria (small restaurant) 1 pasta dish + meat or fish dish + house's wine + water and 1 cake or fruit it will be from 20 till 40 €

in a standard restaurant same as above will cost you from 30 till 60 €

in top class restaurant from 70 € till "the sky"...!!

These above are normal prices out of the beaten paths.

If you chose a restaurant in the tourist routes you risk to spend even the double for the same meal.

However our restaurants are generally serving big portions.

If you take just a meat (or fish) dish and you accompany it with our bread (that's very good) you can save the pasta and you'll pay from 6 to 20 € in less, still depending on where you are. Very important if you are on a budget is to drink just the house's wine. The top wines bottles are extremely expensive at the restaurant. If you like tasting a special type of wine it's much better you buy it at some store and you drink it in yr hotel's room. The wines in the restaurants are ugly overpriced and, unless you're in an expensive restaurant, usually they are not from top brands.

Another tip- all the restaurants in Italy will charge you from 1€ till 3 € per person on top of the bill. It's called 'coperto' (cover)and it's the cost for the table seat, bread, tablecoat, etc.

Top restaurant are also charging from 5 till15% for "service",

but in Italy to leave a tip to the reastaurant's waiter is nowhere mandatory .

    Current rate of US$ vs € is abt 1,35 -  20 € are abt. 27 US$.
