I am moving out for the first time from my parents and they have always paid for everything so I don't know the cost of things :( They don't know that I am moving out yet or I would ask for their help. So any suggestions will help! Also I have no idea the average cost of car insurance. I do pay them some money per month but not the total amount. I am 20 and drive an '03 Honda Accord. Thank you so much in advance!

  1. It will depend on what utilities your apartment complex covers, which is usually just heat and water.  Electricity, which is really your only necessity, would be around $55-60 per month until summer hits.  Using air conditioning can double that very easily.  Add cable and Internet and you're looking at another $80/month.  Car insurance will be your killer.  Since you are under 25, you'd probably be looking at $250/month, but that really depends on your area.  In case you're wondering, it's cheaper with your parents because they have you in a group policy (though it's not much of a discount).  You will want to log on to State Farm or Progressive's websites to get a more realistic number.  Also, you may want to consider a renter's insurance policy to protect your belongings.  Having had my apartment broken into, that extra $20/month, it was great to not have to replace my things using my own cash.
